Pinch-In Power

Today a team of trailwork veterans headed down the infamous Pinch-In Trail to remove an 80-pound steel cable found by volunteers last spring.

Hauling Heavy Trash in Linville Gorge

Volunteers hauled an 80-lb steel cable up 1800 ft of elevation gain today. The Gorge community has been working for a year to clean up the area at the base of the infamous Pinch-In Trail. This steel cable is strange because it doesn’t appear to be old enough to pre-date the wilderness designation. Nobody knows how it got here. The only project to use such cable in recent years was construction of the Spence Ridge bridge about a decade ago, several miles upstream. That bridge was soon destroyed by flooding, and perhaps such waters carried discarded construction materials downstream to Pinch-In.
