After a much needed downpour last night many animals are out foraging

Many terrestrial salamanders only forage in wet weather. Because of the current drought this may be the first chance this salamander has had to eat in weeks. (Photo: Nicholas Massey)

Snakes, like this eastern garter, also benefited from the rain. Although this snake doesn’t require moisture to forage, many of its prey do, giving the snake an opportunity to feed. (Photo: Nicholas Massey)

Dry leaves are difficult to navigate quietly, but because of the moisture from the rain this white-tailed deer can now travel through the forest unheard. (Photo: Nicholas Massey)
