Colossal Collaboration on MST

posted in: Trail Work | 0

Within a week after high winds almost completely blocked the Mountains-to-Sea Trail with fallen trees, the Linville Gorge hiking community organized a large team to quickly clear the clogged ridgeline at Chimney Gap.  The work site was a half mile long, beginning over a mile into the wilderness area.  The project was initiated by Mike Jones on The Linville Gorge Facebook Group, and was brought to fruition through support from Catawba Valley Community College, Forest Service Grandfather Ranger District, Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards, and Wild South.
